Letter from the Founders
Welcome to mediatipper.com. Our mission is straightforward—to revolutionize the online media distribution model from a “forced pay to play” transaction model to a 100% voluntary model. To many executives in the media industry they will look at us and come to the conclusion that we are nuts. Giving the fans 100% control in determining the price of content. No, we are not nuts. We are no different than the average consumer out there. We believe if you create enough value for consumers, they will respond appropriately.

Here are some of our opinions and motivations behind starting mediatipper.com

We find it absurd that most songs and dvds are all priced the same regardless of the quality of the content. If you do not believe us, go into your local record or video store or go online and most items are priced all the same. Could you imagine paying the same price for a Honda Civic as you would pay for a Ferrari? Who wouldn’t be in the business of producing fake Honda Civics if they could charge prices 50% less than the price of a Ferrari?

The amount of quality music and video will grow exponentially over the next few years. This content explosion is largely due to low cost/high production digital tools that are available to anyone wishing to record music, design a video game, or create an online video clip.

Incomes for the average fan around the world are either stagnant or growing at a very slow rate. Simply put, there is not going to be enough dollars to chase all of this media content. Content creators will have to realize that they will have to find other alternative ways to make money. Mediatipper.com’s philosophy is to create and offer tools, resources, and systems which allow content creators to generate more money. We do this at no charge to the artist.

For those of us who understand the basic laws of supply and demand, if supply increases and demand remains fairly constant, prices for media will go down considerably to the point that all our existing online media distribution models will fail to be economically viable. The same thing happened to the telephone long distance industry. It took less than 15 years for the cost of a long distance call to go to virtually zero thanks to the internet. Do you honestly believe it’s going to be any different for online media?

Tipping is theoretically optional, but has become so common in many cultures that in reality most people receiving a service routinely do it and most people providing a service expect it. Millions of people are tippling billions of dollars every year. Tipping is a proven and legitimate economic phenomenon. There will probably never be a technical solution to curb the amount of online media piracy. What “technology giveth technology taketh”. We feel that in order to change people’s habits about illegal downloading you must give them complete control to do what is right in the first place. We believe that the human spirit is one of giving not taking. In our opinion people buy pirated media or download songs illegally because the originals costs way too much relative to their fixed discretionary incomes. Secondly, people do it because it has become socially normal or accepted. Mediatipper.com’s primary goal is to change this behavior so that it becomes socially acceptable to give and not take. We feel that they only way that this can be done is if you give the fan or end user complete control on whether or not they Tipload.

The micro or nano payment industry is in its infancy. In the next 5 years we predict that you will be able to Tipload in amounts less than 1 cent. Although the amount of spending on various forms of media entertainment will probably only grow modestly, the share of the dollars will be spread out among more content creators.

If you share our vision and would like to be apart of our community’s success we welcome your participation.
